About Candle Wax Calculator
Candle Wax Calculator is a set of free tools for candle makers, built around one simple idea: you should know exactly how much wax and fragrance oil to weigh out before you melt anything.
Everything on the site runs in your browser. There are no accounts, no uploads, and no tracking of your inputs.
The best place to start is the candle wax calculator itself — eleven free tools, no account needed.
What this site is
This site is the homepage calculator plus ten tool pages: soy wax, wax melts, fragrance ratio, water to wax, wax weight, wax volume, wax cost, wick size, paraffin, and gel wax. Each one answers a practical question — how much soy does this jar need, how much oil for a 6% load, what does this batch cost, which wick fits this diameter.
Every calculator is backed by notes explaining the method, a worked example, and answers to common questions, so you can check the reasoning yourself rather than trusting a black box.
Who runs this site
The site is owned and maintained by Ian Welkins, who built it to make batch planning simpler for candle makers. He writes and verifies every formula and every page himself. If you spot a mistake in a calculation or a page, he wants to know — the fastest way to reach him is through the contact page, or directly at ianwelkins@gmail.com.
How the numbers are calculated
The calculators use standard candle-making arithmetic. Wax weight is container volume multiplied by wax density; fluid ounces convert to milliliters at 29.5735 per fl oz; fragrance oil is a percentage of the wax weight before the margin; batch totals scale by candle count with a safety margin added on top. The exact formula for each page is shown next to its calculator.
Everything is computed in your browser — nothing is uploaded or stored. The wax densities are typical published values for candle pours, and where a number is an estimate rather than exact math it is labeled as one: your fragrance load and safety margin are your own choices, adjustable on each page, so tune them to your own pouring before buying supplies in bulk.
Frequently asked questions
Is everything really free?
Yes. The homepage calculator plus ten tool pages are free to use, with no account, no sign-up, and no usage limits. There is nothing to buy and no premium tier.
Do you store what I type into the calculators?
No. Every calculation happens in your own browser. Your container volumes, wax choices, batch counts, and results never leave your device — nothing is uploaded and nothing is stored on this site's servers.
Are the results guaranteed to be right?
The math is exact arithmetic from your own inputs: volume converted to weight by density, scaled by candle count, with the margin added on top. The judgment calls are the wax density figures — typical values that vary a little by blend — and your own choices of fragrance load and margin. Confirm the numbers with a test pour before a large batch, and always follow your wax and fragrance suppliers' guidance on safe loads.
